My playback history from Markus Hühn
Short
In one of the first moments I met Playback… something relieved me from looking for something.
In the beginning… it
felt like it was a great gift or a destiny for me to bring out all of
that what I’ve learned before and expressing what I’m interested in.
Later… I found out, that there is much that I know, but much more that I could learn for myself.
Much Later… There is not only harmony at all and there are different opinions and interests in the Playback Theatre movement.
Much more later… Ok, I’m walking myself out and I’m looking for familiarity.
Influenced
by Workshops with Jonathan Fox (U.S.A.), Annette Henne (CH/ Brasil),
Francis Batten (GB), Robin Weir (Australia), Sue Grant (Australia),
Heather Robb (France), Cymbeline Bühler (Australia)
...
Some data of my Playback history and some impressions about these
2005 The intercultural PT-Project in Hann.Muenden started in Feb.
2005 I participated in the second PT Symposium in Arizona
2004 I bought a London-Bus which is now transforming into a mobile stage.
2004 I started Playback for living. The Project is called PurPur.
2003 IPTN-Boardmember
2003 In August, one week ago, I ran a one week
PT-workshop with teenagers and young adults from Italy, Spain and
Germany, together with Birgit Ullrich.
It was very exiting for me, ‘cause it was my first workshop in
English. The moment which touched me most was the goodbye. One 16 year
old girl- the youngest of the group- told me the last day: “ I came
here and felt so small. I thought I couldn’t do anything. Now I’m
feeling so good, that I am able to do everything!”
2003 Co-creator of an spoken word book (Hoerbuch) on 4 CDs about Playback.
For me it was a great journey through “The Vision of Playback
Theatre” with Annette Henne. We worked two months together in a small
house in Switzerland and had a very good, inspiring time.
2002 Collaborator to the German-speeking PT- meeting in Kassel (2002).
We connected five different Playback groups with their special
history. I conducted the opening performance in front of the
Playback-family. Huahhhh.
2002 Playback Theatre Project “Docuplayma” during the art exhibition “documenta XI”.
With Birgit Ullrich I found a new Playback company with
experienced Playbackers out of other Groups. The idea was to establish
regular performances in Kassel, at the same place and the same time.
Instead of three or four performances during the exhibition we
performed monthly a hole year long.
2001 Theatre of the Sun/ Project at Auschwitz/ Birkenau (Poland), supported by the Robert Bosch Foundation
In this project I met myself as a descendant of the
NS-generation. I walked through the fields of killing but as long as I
tried to have feelings for the victims I had none. As I suffer the
feelings for the German perpetrators I felt myself relieved. Chosen
from a German man for his tellers-role during the performance for
visitors of the KZ and people from Krakow, I acted exactly this
conflict out. He felt the same as he came the first time to Birkenau.
In the beginning of this project I managed the contact to and the
support of the Robert Bosch Foundation and felt very satisfied in
bringing PT into this context.
2001 14 day workshop with high talented teenagers (together with Birgit Ullrich).
It was a wonderful experience working with them , ‘cause
they take all that what we taught to their heart. I had tears in my
eyes as they all came to the next german-speeking PT-meeting and played
in front of the adults.
2001 Diploma of the School of Playback Theatre.
The Leadership Course was one of the greatest experience in
Playback Theatre for me. At the end of the workshop I asked myself: How
is it possible bringing every upcoming subject, the group process or a
conflict in practise, like Jonathan it does?
2001 Member of the international Playback Theatre Company Theatre of the Sun (since 2001)/ run by Cymbeline Bühler
Theatre of the Sun/ Project at Skopje (Macedonia)
I came for a theatre festival, but there was no festival. We build
the Theatre of the Sun and were taken of a civil war by surprise. And
we played in front of 300 schoolboys and girls. In spite of the bad
conditions for a performance, we gave them the opportunity to tell
their stories. Stories of being teenager in Macedonia.
2000 I started my PhD about the PT development in the
german speeking countries at the University of Arts in Berlin in Dec.
2000.
I hope to finish my work next year (2004). I worked through the
whole year 2002 earning money for this project, ‘cause I didn’t get a
scholarship.
since 2000 Coach of the Present Playback Theatre (Vlotho/ Bielefeld,)
2000 I ran my first Playback Theatre Workshop.
It was a weekend-workshop for teachers and people who worked in
the education of adults. I filled it up with the program of a week,
what was really to much stuff… . But at the end they asked me for
training them. This engagement became my Leadership-project and I
trained them one and a half year for free.
1999 Participation in the 7. International Playback Theatre Conference/ York (GB) .
I saw the boardmembers and thought “Oh, maybe in 30 years anybody
will ask me to join the board…” The biggest impression of York was the
speech of Peter Hall. I can’t remember exactly what he said but it
touched my heart deeply. It was the sound of the playback breath.
1999 M.A./University Kassel about “In-Between” in Playback Theatre.
Oh, what a work. In the beginning I tried to explain (my or) the
whole universe… . At the end I brought my experiences in playback AND
meditation in a scientific and academic shape.
1997/98 Assistant in PT seminar, run by Prof. Dr. H. Dauber at the University Kassel
1997-2000 Member of the PT company Erzähltheater (Kassel), run by Heinrich Dauber
and Charlette Auque-Dauber; actor
since 1997 Member of the PT company eigenART (Kassel) shared leadership;
as conductor, actor and musicion
We share our knowledge and our competition in a unconventional
group of young playbackers. Maybe we were the first group in the
German-speeking area without a professional coach. In the beginning
other playbackers be astonished about us, ‘cause nobody leads us and
nobody bear a PhD, was a psychodramatist or psychologist; wich is very
important in the European scene. Soon we developed a group-style wich
allows everybody to grow in his and her way into the PT world. I could
grow into the roles of conductor, actor and musician, finding out my
own boundaries and breaking them in a save space. After six years this
way of learning and practicing Playback becomes more and more common.
1997 Collaborator to the 1. International Playback Theatre Symposium / Kassel
1996 I come to know Playback Theatre and Jonathan at the University ( 2 terms with Prof. Dr. H. Dauber).
I was touched by Jonathans calm and careful way of teaching Playback .
Since 1997 participation in german-speeking PT-Meetings: Frankfurt (1997), Vienna (1998), Düsseldorf (1999), Berlin (2000), Stuttgart (2001)
1993 One professor told me that the knowledge that I’m looking for can’t be found in the
university. But maybe I would pass my examination with a good mark.
1989 My first ten minutes ZEN on a meditation cushion.
1986 The father of my girlfriend from Sicilia told me, that he will shoot me, if I
would have come to his house again.
1984 My teacher informed me in his generous way, that I
had to do the eighth class again. Maybe after that year I would be more
handsome.
1981 I brood on the world and that something must be
wrong with me or the world I’m living in. I decided that I’m OK and the
world around me is crazy.
1974 I loved the extremely red, green and yellow ice-cream with a lot of chemical additives!
1969 My first holotropic breathwork (without Grof) during my birth.
